Mary Alice Smith was born on January 21, 1932 to the parentage of the late Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mayfield, Sr. in Palestine, Texas.  She received her education in the Palestine Independent School District, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1950.  She later graduated from Biggers to Business College in 1952 in San Antonio, Texas and Palestine Vocational Nursing School in 1972.  She was a devoted nurse for 26 years until retiring in 1994, due to health.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Charlie Edward Smith, Jr. in 1948.  To this union 2 sons were born, Charles Steven Smith (preceded in death) and Allan Randolph Smith of Charleston, South Carolina.
She united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at a very early age.  She was a very faithful member serving many positions until her health began to fail.
On Sunday morning, July 11, 1999, God called her home to eternal rest.  She leaves to cherish her memory:  her son, Allan (Randy) Randolph Smith and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Smith both of Charleston, South Carolina; two granddaughters, Shaunda Miles and Monique Wingham both of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons-in-law, John Miles, Jr. and Clifton Wingham both of Dallas, Texas; two great grandchildren, Kiara Miles and Michael Wingham both of Callas, Texas; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Diggs of Palestine, Texas; an uncle, Willie Myers of Palestine, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, devoted friends and acquaintances.
